On this full-day tour, you'll see the Marble Chapels, General Carrera Lake, and other must-see attractions in Chilean Patagonia.
You'll leave Coyhaique early in the morning to travel 223 kilometers (140 miles) south on the Carretera Austral to the town of Puerto Tranquilo. Throughout the journey, you'll pass through beautiful forests filled with rare Coigue, Lenga, ire, and Ciruelillo trees. You'll see iconic sights like the Chiguay Lagoon, the Count's Stone, and the Ibaez Portezuelo, which has the highest altitude on the entire Carretera Austral (1000m a.s.l). As you approach the Ibaez River, you'll pass through Cerro Castillo National Park, taking in the size of the imposing Cerro Castillo and the village.
The tour continues down the Murta River valley to the birthplace of General Carrera Lake. There will be photo stops along the way. After 3.5 to 4 hours of driving, you'll arrive in Puerto Tranquilo for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we take a short walk to the shores of General Carrera Lake for a boat ride to the Marble Chapels, a place of exceptional beauty where wave action has polished the limestone to form these unique caves.
Finally, you'll return to Coyhaique, stopping in Cerro Castillo town if you want to buy snacks.
