Tour Overview

The Real Dracula Journey is a full-day tour from Bucharest to Targoviste, Curtea de Arges, and the Poenari Fortress for small groups. The name "the real" Dracula comes from the fact that you will see authentic places in Romania with a connection to Vlad the Impaler – "the real" Dracula.

The first stop will be in Targoviste, Wallachia's old capital under Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), to see the former Princely Court and Chindia Tower, which is now a symbol of the city.

Then you'll travel to Curtea de Arges to see one of Romania's most stunning monasteries. Aside from the monastery's magnificent and unusual architectural style, there's an intriguing legend concerning the church's constructor and what he had to do in order to accomplish the job.

The highlight of our journey will be Poienari Fortress, a unique location accessible only after climbing 1480 steps through a cold woodland. Once at the summit, you can take in the spectacular landscape of the Carpathian Mountains and catch a sight of the famed Transfagasaran Road. Prepare to be awestruck by the breathtaking landscape over the mountains and to hear the dramatic story of Vlad the Impaler, one of history's most fascinating individuals.

Before returning to Bucharest, you'll stop at Vidraru Lake, a significant communist-era structure located close to the famous Transfagarasan Road, dubbed "the most beautiful road in the world" by Top Gear.

After returning to Bucharest, the tour comes to a conclusion.
