Tour Overview

The tour begins in Puerto Madryn and travels north along Provincial Route No2 until it reaches the Control Post, where the entrance fee is paid (approximately 40 km from Madryn). From here, you'll begin to learn about the Peninsula's enchantments, including its geography, vegetation, and fauna. You've arrived at the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus, a narrow land bridge connecting the Peninsula and the continent. The first stop is at the Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center, where you will learn about the Peninsula's ecosystem as well as other significant components of Patagonia's land animals, marine fauna, vegetation, and history. You'll also see a whale's skeleton in its entirety.

Then you'll travel to Puerto Pirámides, the Peninsula's lone village and the only starting point for marine fauna boat cruises. The boat rides run about an hour and a half and are conducted in boats with capacities ranging from 5 to 70 passengers. Southern right whales occur in the Gulf of Mexico from June to December, and trips are available during this time. You'll be able to get up close and personal with them! They swim beneath the boat from time to time, and we can monitor their motions and hear their breathing.

You leave Puerto Pyramids and continue on the Provincial Route No. 2 to continue your adventure. Along the trip, you'll travel by the Great Salt Lake and Small Salt Lake, two of South America's most prominent depressions. You'll arrive at Punta Delgada, an old naval base, if you travel to the peninsula's southeast edge. The Lighthouse was built in 1905 and is still in use today. With the vast cliffs behind them, one of the largest concentrations of elephant seals in the vicinity may be seen. After a few kilometers, you'll come upon Calleta Valdes, a unique geologic feature. A Magellan Penguin colony of several hundred individuals lives on the calleta. You will visit Punta Norte, a breeding elephant seals and sea lions, between the months of October and March, depending on the condition of the roads and the migrations of the animals. It is possible to view Orcas during high tide. You'll then return to Puerto Madryn.
